Botox® Cosmetic Injections

What Is Botox?

Botox also has a wide application in aesthetics. For example, injections help to facilitate the relaxation of facial muscles. This use is beneficial for making the frown lines, wrinkles, and crow’s-feet less visible. In addition, Botox injections can temporarily improve your physical appearance, and some people view it as a less invasive alternative to plastic surgery.

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators weaken and temporarily relax muscle activity in the face and neck. Botox is the most common and trusted neuromodulator on the market today.

Neuromodulators are considered safe and have been part of the aesthetic and beauty scene since receiving FDA approval in 2002. An estimated 11 million people worldwide have received Botox injections, which are popular because they are quick, virtually pain-free, and the results are immediate.

Most patients choose injectables like Botox to treat frown lines, crow’s-feet, and forehead lines. However, they are also used to address non-cosmetic issues like migraines, excessive underarm sweating, muscle stiffness, and eyelid spasms.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox injections affect how muscle contraction occurs. Naturally, muscle contraction happens when the nerves attached to the muscles release a neurotransmitter (or chemical messenger) called acetylcholine. This chemical binds to the muscle cells receptors causing the muscle to contract. Over time, repeated contractions of specific muscles, such as facial muscles, can cause wrinkles and lines to appear on the skin’s surface.

Botox injections reduce muscle contractions by blocking the signals from nerves to muscles. When the injected muscles aren’t able to contract as tightly, the skin relaxes and softens, improving the wrinkle. Botox can also prevent new wrinkles from forming and is used as a preventative treatment in younger populations but it can also help existing wrinkles from deepening and worsening.

Botox® Treatment FAQs

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?

The best candidates for Botox are in good overall health and have moderate to severe facial wrinkles or folds in areas that Botox can treat, such as around or between the eyes, the forehead, the neck, and mouth.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BOTOX?

Botox, like most injectables, is used to restore a youthful appearance to the face or neck and treat issues like fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. In addition, Botox is used to minimize muscle activity and delay the signs of aging.

Botox treatments are quick, require little downtime, and provide noticeable results quickly. Although most patients choose Botox for aesthetic reasons, they serve a medical purpose for some and can help with migraines, excessive sweating, and more. However, the results are not permanent, and repeat injections are needed every four to six months.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX COST?

The price for each patient is based on the treatment area and the amount of product needed to achieve their optimal results. However, the average price per area is:

Forehead: $100-$280

Glabella (the area between the brows known as the ‘11s’): $220-$450

Crow’s feet: $220-$390

Vertical lip line/Lip flip: $120-$150

Mentalis (chin): $120-$150

Hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating): $500-$700

Platysmal bands (neck wrinkles): $120-$350

Many patients find optimal results from a combination of treatments to help keep their look natural and their skin healthy. The talented medical staff at Coastal Aesthetics can create a custom treatment plan based on your desired results and needs.

WHAT TARGET AREAS DO YOU TREAT?

BOTOX can treat a wide variety of areas including:

Crow’s feetForehead linesFrown linesChin dimplingHyperhidrosis (excessive sweating, such as the armpit)Vertical lip lines / Lip flipNeck wrinkles

HOW MANY TREATMENTS SHOULD I GET?

The number of treatments needed and the frequency of those treatments depend on your body chemistry, medical history, and desired results. Like most injectable treatments, Botox is part of an ongoing beauty regimen, which means it isn’t a permanent solution and will require follow-up visits which is typically every 3-4 months.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE? ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

The appeal of cosmetic injections like Botox is that it provides quick results with virtually no recovery period. However, just like any medical treatment, each patient might respond differently. Although the odds of having an adverse reaction are very low, our medical staff will explain all the risks and possible side effects before you undergo treatment.

Some patients may experience minor bruising or swelling at the injection site which is temporary. We are happy to answer any questions about your injections during your appointment, so you feel prepared and comfortable

Dr. Amparo David

Philosophy

As a holistic dentist, Dr. David believes strongly in using treatments to help facilitate the body’s ability to heal itself wherever possible. Many of the techniques and technologies being used at Care Esthetics of Bolton hold true to this philosophy.

Over the past two decades, Dr. David’s patients have sought her cosmetic expertise to improve their smiles and she has worked with her patients to produce stunning results (link to smile gallery). Frequently, upon successful completion of a large cosmetic case, many of her patients wanted to rejuvenate the rest of their face to match their new smile and would ask her to recommend skin rejuvenation treatments for their face. Care Esthetics of Bolton was founded to fulfill this need!

Facial Aesthetics Education and Training

Dr. David has focused her attention on incorporating wrinkle relaxers into the practice. Wrinkle relaxers are cosmetic treatments that reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These treatments typically involve the injection of botulinum toxin type A, such as Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin. These treatments block nerve signals to the targeted muscles, preventing muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. This leads to a smoother and more youthful appearance. She received her training from the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics in Dermal fillers and Botox.

With all of the facial aesthetics treatments incorporated into the practice, Dr. David ensures that she knows exactly what her patients are feeling by undergoing the same treatment herself!

Dental Aesthetics Education and Training

Dr. David is a graduate of both the prestigious Dawson Center for Aesthetics and the Spear Institute of Advanced Dental Education, where she has participated as a member of the faculty and spends several weeks a year working with dentists from around the country. She has a specific interest in changing lives through her thorough understanding of cosmetic dentistry and works with many patients to provide them with the smile they have always wanted. Dr. David continues to serve as an advisor to other local dentists on specific cosmetic cases and receives referrals from colleagues. Additionally, she participates in several local study groups with colleagues to collectively share ideas and approaches to challenging cases.

Some aesthetic cases do not need to be sent to the lab and can be done the same day with one of the two Cerec machines we have in the practice. Since Dr. David deploys this technology in her office, she ensures that she and her team provide the best in clinical excellence through CDOCs, where she interacts with like-minded dentists from around the country to discuss techniques in digital dentistry. She and her staff continue to participate in formal Cerec hands-on training to ensure the best outcomes for their patients.
